Gutter Service in Alton, NH

Alton Bay is a four-mile cove at the southern tip of Lake Winnipesaukee, and the town around it is pines, cottages and year-round lake houses. We cover Alton from Hampstead, about 1 hour 10 minutes and 52 miles by our estimate, and the work is mostly needles, snow and small roofs. Trips this far out are booked well ahead of the season.

Alton takes its shape from the water. The town sits at the southern end of Lake Winnipesaukee, where Alton Bay runs four miles back toward the lake, and most of its housing is either a cottage near the bay or a lake house lived in all year.

Pines over small roofs

The median Alton home was built in 1974, and 94% are owner-occupied (ACS 2020-24). That puts many roofs at an age where original gutters are worn, and many lake lots sit under heavy pine cover. Pine needles are the worst of it, because they sift through open troughs and lodge in the downspout elbows.

A cottage roof is small, but a small run clogs fast. Debris that sits in a short trough through the winter freezes and can pull a hanger loose when the next melt comes.

Cottage or year-round house

Alton Bay cottages and year-round lake houses need different things. A cottage that is closed up for months wants a cleaning before it empties. A year-round house lives with the snow, and the roof sheds it over the gutters all season.

If a cottage is rented out or opened only in summer, tell us when it is occupied and who can let us in. Small, older cottages also tend to have shallow eaves, so we check the fascia for soft spots before a new run goes up.

Mount Major, Halfmoon Lake and the rest of town

Alton also reaches Halfmoon Lake, shared with Barnstead, and Mount Major in the Belknap Range. Hillside lots shed water quickly toward the foundation, so downspout placement matters as much as the gutter itself.

Eighty square miles, two village centers

Alton covers about 82 square miles, and roughly 19 of them are water (town and state figures), so shoreline is a big share of the map. Alton Bay, an unincorporated village, sits on NH 11 and NH 28A about a mile north of the center of town. It was the terminus of the Dover and Winnipiseogee Railroad. The main village is at the junction of NH 11 and NH 140, and NH 28 runs about 11 miles north to Wolfeboro.

Those two centers are different places for a roof. Around the bay, cottages and low commercial buildings sit close to the water. Up in the main village and out on the hills, lots can be more spread out and wooded. When you call, tell us which you are in.

The trip from Hampstead

Alton is about 52 miles out. We book visits ahead and may combine them with jobs in Wolfeboro, Gilford or Gilmanton. You get a written price after we have looked at the roof. Alton is part of Belknap County.

“He called me on Tuesday to tell me that there is rain expected and he would like to move the job up to Wednesday (today). I thought that was very professional of him to reach out and reschedule.”

Gutter questions from Alton

Do you clean gutters on small cottages around Alton Bay?

Yes. A small cottage has a short run, but pine needles can fill it quickly and the roof may be low enough that debris sits in plain view. Alton is about 52 miles from Hampstead, so we book visits ahead and may line them up with other nearby jobs. Tell us the roof height when you call.

Which gutter option suits a pine-covered Alton lot?

It depends on how fast the needles return. If you clear the trough twice a year and it stays clean, regular cleaning may be enough. If needles pack back in within weeks, guards are worth pricing. We look at the lot and the roof pitch before suggesting either, and put the options in a written price.

Do you work on commercial roofs around Alton Bay?

Yes, we clean and repair gutters on commercial buildings. Alton Bay has restaurants, marinas and campgrounds, per the town, and their roofs are busiest in summer. Tell us the roof type and the quiet weeks, such as late fall, and we will agree a time. Alton is about 52 miles out, so visits are booked ahead.
