How gutter needs change across Merrimack County

Merrimack County has the state capital at its center and the Merrimack River running down its length. Hooksett, at the southern end, has retail near I-93 and growing subdivisions around its old village. North and west toward New London, the land climbs into the hills around Mount Kearsarge, the county's highest point, and snow stays on roofs longer.

The county's median home was built in 1977, and 73% of homes are owner-occupied (ACS 2020-24). That is lower than the owner shares in towns such as Auburn (94%) and Deerfield (91%), so expect more rentals, condos and multi-family buildings in the river towns and around the capital. Those buildings are usually decided by a manager or board, and we quote in writing for them.

Gutter service in the river towns and Concord suburbs

Closest to us are the towns along the Merrimack and the Suncook River. Hooksett, Bow and Pembroke have a mix of newer subdivisions and older village blocks, and Suncook and Allenstown have the mill-village housing. Each town page explains what its homes usually need.

Rivers that have moved

Three rivers meet the county's southern towns: the Merrimack, the Suncook and the Soucook. In the May 2006 flood the Suncook broke through a bank in Epsom and took a new channel (USGS). Gutters cannot hold back a river. They can keep roof water from adding to ground that is already saturated, so in the river towns we aim downspouts well away from foundations and use long extensions where the lot is flat.

Snow and the Kearsarge hills

The hills north of Concord run snowier. That changes the work. Heavier snow loads bend gutters, pull hangers and slide off steep roofs onto doors and walks. Ice builds at the eaves when attic heat melts snow that refreezes at the edge, and the real fix is insulation and ventilation, not gutters alone.

For hill-town roofs, we think about closer hanger spacing, wider gutter capacity and snow guards over entries.

Concord, the county seat

Concord is both the county seat and the state capital, and the 2010 center of population of the whole state fell in Pembroke, just south of it. Towns around the capital differ a lot in what their roofs need. By the plan's Census figures, Pembroke's median home dates to 1969 and Bow's to 1985, so their gutters are at different points in their life. We ask for the address before we say what a visit will involve.

Gutter questions from Merrimack County

Which parts of Merrimack County do you serve?

We cover the county's towns, starting with Hooksett, the nearest at about 22 miles. Farther north the trips are longer, so we book them ahead and may group jobs nearby. Call with your town and address and we will say when we can come, then give you a written price after a look.

Does Merrimack County weather change what gutters need?

Yes. Towns around the Kearsarge hills run snowier than the river towns near Hooksett. More snow load puts weight on the eaves and hangers and raises the chance of slides off steep roofs. In the hills we look closely at hanger spacing and the roof pitch above doors.

Do you work on commercial buildings in Merrimack County?

Yes, commercial cleaning and repair are on our list. One Plaistow customer reviewed a 30,000 square foot job. For Merrimack County buildings, send the roof type, access and your hours, and we will agree timing and write a price after we have looked at it.
